The district is shaped by the housing developments of the post-war decades. Terraced and semi-detached houses from the 1950s to 1970s define many streets, plus apartment blocks along the main roads. Detached houses are found mainly in Davenstedt.
Ahlem has kept its village core and has been complemented by new-build areas. Badenstedt lies closer to Linden and offers the most urban part of the district. The light rail connects all neighbourhoods directly with the city centre.
Mostly existing properties come onto the market. Many of them have only been partially renovated since they were built, which opens up room for an increase in value through renovation when buying.
